We are proud to announce that EFC Inc is now the only Canadian distributor of factory engineered insulated panels made without ozone-depleting substances, which also fully comply, with the highest fire safety standards.

Our manufacturer, Metecno-Aluma Shield, has successfully addressed the challenge of environmental responsibility by replacing the HCFC 114b blowing agent with Pentane, a product that does not affect the ozone layer nor produce greenhouse gases.

Following years of exhaustive research and after significant investment, this breakthrough makes Aluma Shield the first insulated panel manufacturer in North America to unconditionally comply with the terms of the SNAP Program (Significant New alternatives Policy) as well as with Section 606 of the Clean Air Act, the Montreal Protocol and new environmental regulation resulting from the Kyoto Accord.

The challenge was two-fold since the replacement blowing agent also had to meet the strictest flammability performance standards set out in the National Building Code. Here again, our efforts met with success.

Aluma Shield panels have received a Class 1 rating based on FM4880 (Full-Scale Corner Test). In addition, Aluma Shield panels are the only products of their kind to have obtained full ULC Canada certification for building material combustibility, giving us a leading edge on the competition.

The objective of the Montreal Protocol, which entered into force on January 1st, 2004 in Canada and the United States, is to reduce ozone-depleting HCFC by 35%.

The Ozone Depleting Potential rating of Pentane is zero and its Global Warming Potential is zero or negligible depending upon the exact formulation.

EFC and Aluma Shield are happy to join environmental efforts and contribute to the well-being of future generations, while remaining at the forefront of technological progress in the field of factory engineered insulated panels.
